How Much Does a Grown Hippo Weigh? 
There
are two species of hippopotamus,
the Large Hippo and the Pygmy Hippo.
A full-grown Large Hippo or
Common Hippo (Hippopotamus
amphibius) can
weigh as much as 4 tons and grow to a size of 4 meters in length and a
height of 1.4 meters (measured up to its shoulder).
A
full-grown,
appropriately-named Pygmy Hippo (Choeropsis
liberiensis) may weigh as much as 270 kg and grow to a size of 1.5
meters in length and a height of 0.8 meters (again, measured up to its
shoulder).

> Young hippos can only stay
under water for about half a minute, but adults can stay submerged up
to six minutes.
